Faceted Synthetic (Imitation) Gemstones
The general characteristics of a synthetic stone are the same as those of natural material but being laboratory produced, they tend to be clearer and finer than natural equivalents.
The two most common synthetics are Corundum and Spinel and various shades can be produced resulting in hard stones similar in appearance to other types. Frequently sold as 'Synthetic Tourmaline' or 'Synthetic Aquamarine' etc. they should correctly be described as synthetic Spinel of Tourmaline or Aquamarine colour.
