Flat lapping is the term given to the process of grinding and polishing a flat surface onto a piece of stone.
The faceting machine, shown on the preceding pages, can be used for small flat surfaces but anything larger, such as bookends requires a special machine.
Vibratory machines contain an electric motor, thrown off balance by eccentric weights, the movement of which is countered by torsion bars or radial coil springs.
If a good smooth finish is present on the stone (such as that achieved by a, power feed, diamond saw) then it is possible to grind from 400 grit and polish within a few hours using these units.
Aimed at the small business wishing to produce polished slabs for resale. The capacity is such that output related to preparation is improved - there being 2 1/4 times the working area of a 10" lap.
Levelling is achieved with thumbscrews whilst the machine is running.
Pan lifts clear by loosening only one screw.
