Tumbled flat freeform Charoite average 2cms

Ref: Charoite

Charoite is an unsual mineral and of rare occurence. It is found to date in only one location: along the Chary River at Aldan in Russia. It formed from alteration of limestones by the close presences of an alkali-rich nephline syenite intrusion. The heat, pressure and more importantly, the infusion of unique chemicals into the rock is responsible for the transformations into new minerals such as charoite. Why charoite has not been found in other locations is not fully understood. But it is probably due to a combination of a chemically unique limestone reacting with a chemically unique intrusion and subjected to unique physical conditions.
Charoite is used as an ornamental stone and as a gemstone. It has the appearance of purple marble, but really defies description. Its popularity would probably be much greater if not for its "synthetic" character: It simply looks unnaturally beautiful. Several pieces are illustrated to indicate natural variation and random shape and size - although each piece is about 2cms in width and about 3-6mm thick.

Three specimens illustrated to show product variation. Apple green colour. Brazilian. Specimen supplied on a descriptive card.
Brittle, translucent, semiprecious chalcedony, a variety of the silica mineral quartz. It owes its bright apple-green colour to colloidally dispersed hydrated nickel silicate; heating or prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause the colour to fade. Its physical properties are those of quartz. Typical occurrences are in serpentine as a secondary mineral found in cavities and veins. Australia and USA have notable deposits but this sample is from Brazil.Imitation chrysoprase is chalcedony dyed with nickel or chromium salts.

KUNZITE Tumble polished (carded)

Kunzite is the pink variety of spodumene; the other variety is green and is called Hiddenite. Kunzite is strongly pleochroic, i.e. there is a color intensity variation when a crystal is viewed from the top or bottom then from other directions. The top and bottom of the crystal reveal the deepest colors and gem cutters take advantage of its effects. Due to kunzite’s cleavage, splintery fracture and strong pleochroism it is considered a real gem cutters challenge but results in a very desirable gemstone. (Note: Color Fades When Exposed To Bright Light).
Size is about 15-20mm and the stone is supplied on a card with the above description.

Sapphires are a form of corundum, which is the second hardest mineral after Diamond. Ranging from clear pale blue (known as Ceylon Sapphire) to darker blue - even black - the values can vary enormously. Other colours are also present such as yellow or pink/orange (Padparadscha) but the Red or dark pink Corundum is known as Ruby. Crystals exhibiting asterism known as ‘Star Sapphire’ contain needle-like inclusions of something like Rutile. This tumble-polished crystal is from Madagascar and is supplied with a descriptive card. Three stones are illustrated to show natural variation.

A relatively RARE aluminium phosphate mineral that is sometimes confused with chrysocolla or turquoise - although variscite is usually greener than turquoise. It is used as a gemstone for jewellery and for carving. This piece is from Botswana.
Therapists claim it to be a good meditation stone which also eases depression, fear, worry, anxiety and impatience. Said to help with virtue, self-reliance, moral courage and success.
