Amethyst - Facet cut

We have a large range of Amethyst gemstones in two qualities: 'A' Grade tends to be clearer and deeper in colour. The 'B' Grade are generally paler and may have a slight cloudiness.

Amethyst is the Birthstone for February:
The word AMETHYST is derived from ther Greek, meaning 'Not Drunken'. According to mythology, the stone inspires fairness and a sense of duty.

These faceted Aquamarine are standard commercial quality and the low price reflects the fact that they may be slightly cloudy and pale - but still good value.
Aquamarine is the Birthstone for March. The name is derived from sea-water and said to engender a spirit of hope and a promise of better things to come.

Citrine - Facet cut

We have a good standard range of Citrine gemstones in round and oval shapes.
Citrine is sometimes used as an alternative to Golden Topaz for the February Birthstone and is believed by some to ward off epilepsy and asthma and also cure insomnia.

On the Moh's scale (1-10) of hardness, Diamond is 10. It is the hardest, natural, known substance to man. It is pure Carbon (black), which when compressed and fused at high temperature, deep inside the Earth, produces a brilliant white crystal (although it can be found in other colours).

Emerald - Facet Cut - Extra Quality

Much prized and often more valuable than Diamonds of the same size, owing to the rarity, of this Beryl gem, in a good clear green quality. It is the Birthstone for May and is usually cut as an octagon (called an Emerald-Cut), to reduce the likelihood of damage to such a brittle stone.

These stones are generally a lighter colour and a clearer high grade than our commercial quality emeralds and will vary in depth.

Garnet is the name given to a group of silicate minerals, varying slightly in composition, which result in a range of colours - except blue. Red (pyrope) is most commonly used for jewellery and was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Garnet is the Birthstone for January.
N.B. Garnet: Owing to their deep red colour,
these are usually cut shallow with a sharp girdle.

This red variety of Corundum is extremely hard - only Diamond is harder! - and is sometimes more valuable than a Diamond of a comparable size. It has been confused with red Spinel and the famous Black Princes' Ruby, in the English Imperial State Crown, is in fact a Spinel!
